Regrets: blessings in disguise
January 30, 2012

It's often said that "misfortune might be a blessing in disguise". I don't believe in the fortune thing though. One's encounters, be it fortunate or unfortunate, are only sequelae of human behaviours and environmental factors. There is no such thing as blessing or curse. But when we look at the many regrets we have in life, we can safely conclude that, while most regrets are saddening, we still treasure the experience they brought. Adversities in life only makes us stronger.

It's been nearly one month since new year. This month has been special, in that I've experienced two holidays in one month. Fortunately for me, there were no regrets in January 2012. This is in stark contrast to the previous Januaries. I know that things won't always go smooth, but let's hope that when things go bad, being a stronger person now I will be able to overcome those sufferings, in a more sophisticated manner.

For now, all is well.

Core values, live simply
January 22, 2012

We all have different core values. Henry Tang, for instance, has his most central of all core values placed on securing core values (捍衛核心價值是最核心的核心價值). What are my core values? Well, searching for perfection is one of them. To do this, one need to look at the big picture as well at the minutest detail in order to get things done.

Looking for simplicity is another. When I say simplicity, I don't just refer to external, physical items like clothes, design and the gadgets I use. I also refer to the way I live. Traditions are in all means against simplicity. There're endless unnecessary customs that are done for the sake of tradition. It therefore comes as no surprise that I hate CNY. But in this CNY, there's one more event that is against simplicity -- wedding banquet. Well, please, I swear that when I get married, I would not do anything that is unnecessary. I need everything to be simple and elegant. This is really important -- simple and elegant. Well, since this is not my wedding, I guess I'll have no choice. But every one of us has a choice. Live simply. That's what we should do in this CNY, and in the coming days to come.

Holiday resumes
January 21, 2012

What's a better topic to succeed the last one [school resumes] than this one, "Holiday resumes"? Indeed, semester 2 in BDS V is dramatically different from that of sem 1. In sem 1, we had full day near every week, and holiday was scarce; in sem 2 we have long breaks every few weeks. After Christmas holidays we went to school for two weeks, and then it's CNY, and after three weeks we'll be going on a three-week trip of elective. The only ones that suffer are our patients, who have to wait until we got sessions to deliver treatments. But who cares? Time to get a little irresponsible.. Those are teaching patients; they must fit our teaching schedule =P

In one way or another, school has become more enjoyable starting this semester. I don't know if this applies to everyone, but my guessing is at least another person would agree with me. Yes, my university life has never been better. Sadly, it will last only for a few months more. But let's not complain, because, well, some is better than none. Please join me and enjoy life.

One more thing. With A5 devices receiving iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak finally, the world has become a better place. Let's enjoy jailbreaking.

School resumes
January 14, 2012

It's time to go to school again. Having had an unprecedented three-week holiday, I'm not so reluctant to go to school. However, it's still a bit unfair to BDS students as always. Well, I thought we're lucky that we have another holiday after going to school for two weeks. But my roommate told me that he'll only have school for one week before CNY. I shouldn't be bothered by this though. I've had my best Christmas holiday ever already, so I shouldn't complain.

But still, school is so demanding that I got sick again. But being sick confirmed one belief -- I really hate congee. But other than that I have no choice this time. Life is sometimes like that. At one point you've got lots of options, but at other times you're left with no option, and you can only stay focused and do what is right. This is perplexing.

Does that mean I'm complaining about my life again? Absolutely not. On the contrary, I'm very pleased with what I have. And I have to thank every one for that.

End of fun, GX1
January 8, 2012

With school resuming tomorrow, my holiday fun is officially coming to an end. Looking back, the past three weeks have really been the most dramatic Christmas holiday I've ever had. I should really treasure what I have had and shouldn't complain.

Meanwhile, I bought my first toy of 2012 - GX1. How is it? It's fun. Am I getting more serious about photography now? No, I'll continue to shoot casual photos. This makes life simpler than having to take care of all those techniques and jargons in photography.

2012
January 1, 2012

Welcome to 2012. It's normal for one to look at the future on the first day of new year, setting expectations for oneself. However, this is not my plan right now. Instead I'm going to review the past, the past holiday season in particular. Why? Because the past Christmas is so different from my previous ones. I usually suffered in my past Christmases. But I'm really satisfied with myself this time. Of course, I shouldn't show off my happiness, because superstition says this would bring bad luck. But in such great time I just want to share my joy with every one, so that you can be happy too.

Looking back further, at the past Jan 1's, you will notice the difference even better:

2011: HNY. New year signifies new start. However, my life is now in a complete mess; so is my mind.

2010: Well, it's new year now, but we're still doing something old, like studying RPD.. Even more unfortunate is that we're depending on a textbook written more than 20 years ago, in the 80s.

2008: I've been damn busy these days..

2007: … my mood was too bad to allow me saying this last night.. Anyway school has resumed, so has my tedious life of endless study.

So, this Jan 1 is really different, because I'm enjoying life. Perhaps there's one thing that gives me pain -- I have trouble choosing between Sony's 5N and Panasonic's GX1. Well, I somehow like GX1 better, but I know Sony's system should give better quality. So?

Before we end today's entry, I'd like to look at the past one more time -- this site's past pix for new year! Well, our history wasn't always glamourous, considering the fact that in 2011 I reused 2007's theme pix (because it just looked nice), and in 2008 we didn't even have a theme pix for new year. But the rest are here. I hope you'll enjoy.

HNY!
