K&C codename buddy

June 26, 2009

Well, following ♥anzyme.com, our theme pix now reads: ♥Earth. Yes, "love" is my new campaign. We all need love, and I've decided to pay tribute to things that I've always adored.

So, as Mum's and my Bdays are coming close, we had buffet at R66, which was BAD. Very bad. Hmm.. I'd say Todai is better, and cheaper. I enjoyed myself though.. Thx.

Sadly I'm having a meeting soon (at 11.40 pm), so I'll see you.

Heritage
June 24, 2009

One of the good heritage of La Salle that contributes to its success is the old boys' initiative to assist the younger generation of Lasallians. After some recent events, I start to think it's time to shoulder this responsibility.

The first event came as I received a newsletter from the OBA. (The first since they had finally got my mailing address correct.) First of all, I saw a more professional design, which attracted me to read the publication. I then discovered a lot of events among the old boy community - a ball at the W, some professional visits (like one to the under-construction Stoneclutter Island Bridge), the HSBC shares issue, to name but a few. What other schools in HK have such a strong and active alumni community? I have no interest in any of the activities mentioned above at this moment, but I guess one day I'll be at least in a part which helps raising funds for the school and advising our future Lasallians on their careers.

Another event is more related to my (developing) expertise - Dentistry. I received a msn message a few months ago from a F.7 La Salle boy. I didn't remember him at first. He told me that we met in his F.6 orientation camp, where I went to give some advice on university choice. He sent me a message again today, asking for some interview tips. And of course he had that.

For those who need the same information, especially for the Sec members who still read my blog today, I decide to put the same tips here for your interest:

L: do you have any tips?

me: hmm.. do u know what PBL is?

L: (his answer)

me: more or less.. my advice is: read this to have a thorough understanding
me: and then when the interviewer ask you why you'd like to study dentistry, say something like you love/admire pbl as one of the reasons

L: ng, get it!

me: ok, wish u good luck then

L: thanks
L: by the way, the interview is going to a group one and discuss a topic together?

me: ya, discuss several topics, not dentally related
me: looking back i think the interview is to assess your ability to study with pbl
me: seeing how you'll perform in a PBL discussion

L: ic, then it seems they seldom ask you individual questions except Self-intro, right?

me: correct

L: do you still remember your questions in the interview? want to see their approach

me: i remember there're three questions in total. one is like "how do u think human can do to stop global warming", the other is also social issue related, which i forgot
me: and the third one was "how did you prepare for this interview"

L: interesting for the third one.

me: it seemed irrelevant but it totally makes sense now - they wanted to see if you are a capable self-learner

Exam is over..
June 23, 2009

..hopefully. Well, OSCA today was really chur. Everyone expressed uncertainty as they left; some, like me, even expressed fear that they'll have to do that again. God, I need your help. Let a pass be my bday gift, following the blessing you gave me two years ago.

Subsequent to exam today I went to Yum Cha. But the pix I'm going to show below have nothing to do with Yum Cha (nor with gutta-percha XD). They were something I had at EXP a few days ago. Ya, FW's EXP. I haven't been there for long, have you?

Oh btw, exam has made me forgotten abt my bday, which is coming soon. But I guess as my exam mood fades, bday mood dominates soon. (The first person saying HB to me this year is Dr. Fernando, who I saw last last Saturday.)

Coupons, and more
June 17, 2009

Hi, long time no see. But I have some gifts for u guys. See below. Don't worry, they are intended to be printed and used.

Another thing concerns something artistic. As you know, one of the core values here is beauty. And I think the british pound coins below are really beautiful. They're actually their everyday coin - not some special edition - newly introduced in 2008. Why is there no sense of art in our city?

Stuff
June 13, 2009

Hi, there're two things to talk about today.

One, as I browsed through ECtutor and Tutor Kingdom, I found some, well, unique profiles posted by others. Here're the highlights:

The second thing is that I'd like to keep a copy of the previous theme pix here:

Paper, chrome α
June 12, 2009

Well, exam has finally (kinda) finished. I'll still have OSCA on 23rd though. "Don't think it's over yet," an advice from Emerson. OK I'll work hard, especially on those trivial topics.

Meanwhile, I found that an alpha version of Google Chrome is available for download. Because it's an alpha, there're some issues, like not supporting flash, bookmark, etc. But the interface is very clean (not following OS X's Human Interface Guideline make it somehow seam better with OS X's overall UI. At least it looks better than Safari 4 beta's tabs-on-top, which has been dropped in the final version.) I am hoping when the final version of Chrome for Mac comes out, it can replace Firefox as a secondary browser for me, because firefox on mac, unlike its sibling on windows, has been too lame.

Exam soon
June 11, 2009

Hi, my exam will commence in 7 hours. Wish me luck.

Tappier than ever
June 9, 2009

There will still be one day prior to exam. I guess I have to grasp this final chance to study hard. I can't resist myself from posting two amazing pix though.. So, let's go to WWDC.

Tutoring on Saturday
June 6, 2009

I've said multiple times that I'm not without any students now - I still have eight on Saturday in math tutorial class. There used to be two classes, but now there's only one. And I found that exhausting. I mean I could hardly rest for a moment in that classes, because there were questions for me, one after another. Sigh..

The real reason for today's entry is the following though:

Ultimate sacrifice
June 5, 2009

Well, since there's less than one week prior to exam, and I feel so bad about my progress so far, I made an ultimate sacrifice today as I went home - delete The Sims 3 on the iPhone. Basically, I was so distracted by that yesterday that I merely studied anything. Well, my wish would be for the exam to end asap, so that I can play with The Sims 3 again on the iPhone, or maybe even dl a Mac version so that I can play on desktop : )

More updated update
June 3, 2009

Be calm and do your best, that's all La Salle request.

Well, Lasallians, perhaps it's time to adopt a higher standard. Kevin, at least pass your exam so that you don't screw up your holiday and Apollon.

Brief update
June 1, 2009

Today's entry will just be a brief update which facilitates the announcement of the latest Popularity Index. What happened today then? School in the afternoon. Was it useful? Well, I did nothing more than proofing my identity as "Burnishingの達人"..

Meanwhile, my revision is still inefficent and boring. I really hope things will finish soon. And the remaining big reason that motivates me is Apollon - if I failed an exam and had to retake it in August, we're done. No design, no Apollonian. Kevin, you'd better work hard.

PS So, popularity index. There's been (43481-42283) 1198 visits from 4/5 till the end of May, meaning on average 42.8 visits per day. Hmm, K&C is finally back on track.
