We've gone HD! July 31, 2009
As I got home today, I discovered something remarkable - a flat screen tv. "Wow!" I wowed. Yes, mum bought a full hd tv, and it does add spice to my life.
My life this week's been good. I'd like to highlight my visit to Tuen Mun on Wed - it was fun. On Thursday I went to BU's registration day, finding that the procedures there were much simpler than those at HKU. There's no such things as Zone 1-3, photo-taking/form-filling for ocamp booklet, ... Helpers from hall don't have to keep an 1.5 metre distance from the freshman as they enter "Zone 3". Cmon, HKU's supposed to be the best U in town, but in terms of its student government, HKU's is the stupidest.
Things I adore, more July 28, 2009
As one grows up, he starts to discover things he always adores from his living pattern. The "love" series you see in my theme pix is part of that living pattern. "Anzyme.com", "Earth" (or the environment), "summer days", and what's shown in the latest pix, black and white. There're things more difficult to express in a theme pix though, such as my reading habits. I have to admit I'm not a regular book reader. Many people consider books their recreation, reading all kinds of books. I'm not one of them. As I've mentioned in an earlier article, Yishu's books are my personal favourite. This saying is kind of superficial - it's just like a small circle of 300 ppl (s)electing the new CE of Macau - how can I say someone is my favourite writer if I have only read works from a few authors? Nonetheless, if I have to make an amended saying, I still have to say I really love Yishu's works.
Speaking of reading, the reason that I can't say Yishu's my favourite is exactly the same as why I choose not to go to book fair this year. It's not because book fair has been overwhelmed by Lan Mo (or Teenage Model, 少女模特兒. Well said, TVB) and their fans, but that I don't really read. If I have to get a book, why shouldn't I go to a quieter place, such as Dymocks?
Oh, I almost forgot - the true reason for me to mention reading. I've just read another Yishu's book this afternoon. The book has been "expropriated" from my sister for a while, but I only have time to read it now. Anyway it's good, and I feel a peace of mind now.
Following my bike trip on Monday, the rest of the week has also been enjoyable. This includes killing time with movies. I watched New in Town on DVD this week, which was good. I'd say it's nearly as good as HP HBP, which I watched last week. So..
Btw, this is the last day of year 2. I always feel less negative than some of my dental friends, so I'd say, all things said and done, it's been a meaningful year. I haven't had much personal growth this year, but life's been enjoyable. Starting Sept life will be tougher though: there's going to be no day-offs. And things will be the same for the next three years. Kevin, good luck.
New students, more July 20, 2009
A new chapter of my life begins in recent days. For months I found no students at all, which saved me time for revision. But then three jobs came along in one single day. One is to teach English for a F.3 boy, two are to teach UE. On Sun I had my first lesson with the F.3 boy, which was okay. And today I had my first session with the F.7 guy, who lives in Tai Shui Hang. WTF? Tai Shui Hang? How many of you know where it is? (Sorry to those who live in Ma On Shan) Yes, it is in Ma On Shan. Because it was my first UE job offer for months, and because I recalled MK used to have a MOS student, I took it, which I regretted later as I was offered a second UE job at main campus. But now that I've accepted the MOS job, I guess I can have a try..
I regretted once more as I arrived at Tai Shui Hang station this morning. The look and feel there was just like Danshui Station, Taipei. (N.B. Danshui is a remote area in far north of Taipei, the furthest station of Taipei's subway system.) Yes, it's very remote. And it even got a waterfront promenade, which resembles the many features of the one in Sai Wan Ho: a long corridor, a road for buses, public housing which has the splendid seaview, and of course, the sea. In this case it was the Tolo Harbour, and on the other side of it, CUHK. Well, in the spirit of "在這個令人開懷的地方奔波,就算得不到平靜而悠閒的日子,也至少贏得了心境" (See Jan 8 2009), my frustration of being at this remote part of HK subsided. (Again, sorry MOS guys.)
The student was not too stupid. I guess I can save him.
The weather is exceptionally good today, which made me decided to cycle from MOS to home. No, that's a joke, but I did cycle from Tai Wai to Taipo, without going home. It was fun.
Update July 17, 2009
OK, time to update. As always, I think pictures can tell the story better. 1) I went to this place for dinner earlier this week, which was nice. The Chun Guen was special. 2) Bought a new pack of coffee as I shopped at Welcome with Thomas. "Rich and seductive". Will I get as rich as Wealthee Chan? 3) Some of you have heard abt this: my Macbook's battery has bulged a bit, and I'm afraid sooner or later it'll be on fire. It'd be safer to get a replacement battery. As always, Apple has nice package even for its accessories. 4) I've finally printed a business card for myself. Isn't it nice?
"Love" campaign continues, more July 13, 2009
I've had a relaxing day today. I woke up early in the morning, had a McDonald's breakfast, went to main lib for some readings and got the radiology book printed, with some difficulties though. Things are good today, perhaps except that there're some boredom along with freedom.
Btw, I've done something I have always wanted to do - selecting the best theme pix of K&C and make a whole collection of them. It's wonderful. But please be reminded I've selected most, but not all, of those pix. But I guess that will be enough for bringing endless memories.
Results 2 July 9, 2009
Well, following fears on Tue, another exciting news came today - a more detailed report of our results. My results are very surprising - two "aboves". I can only say, it really reflects the inadequacies and preposterousness of the BDS assessment system. C'mon, we all know Kevin Chan is not the "above" type.
I've finally finished designing I Day booklet, meaning I can now focus on Apollon. But before that I need some rest. Guys, rest in peace.
Results, Meeting Lester, CU July 7, 2009
I have a question for weeks: will I pass my exam? This query struggled every dental students this afternoon. We were all relieved when we heard the whole class '12 had passed. God has shown his love for me once again. On Sept 1 2009, I'll officially become a Big Sen. Congrats, Kevin; congrats my dental friends.
In coincidence to this worth-celebrating occassion, I met Michael Wong and Lester at Wanchai for dinner. Meeting old freinds is fun, especially when you meet some true friends. To me, true friends can be someone we don't see a lot, but who when you meet them, you're in the same channel.
Btw I visited CUHK yesterday. I haven't had much experience going to CU though. The first visit was on it's open day, the second was my medicine interview, which sucked. On this visit, nothing disastrous happened, but the remoteness I experienced there have made me love HKU more - our campus is easilily accessible, not to mention we can go to "downtown" with ease. Haha, forgive me for using the word "downtown" as Central/Admiralty/Wanchai/CB's synonym. But this word really helps describe HKU's location, doesn't it?
Inertia, Bday, Key skills, more July 5, 2009
The word inertia has a double meaning - a tendency to remain unchanged or travel in uniform motion. I like the second meaning better - when we don't accelerate, wouldn't it be better to at least keep ourselves moving forward? Sadly, after exam, I can hardly do that. I study only what I have to study, work on hall's I-Day booklet only when I'm urged, spend minimal time on Apollon, and allocate no time at all to Anzyme.com. This makes me miss a lot of important moments this week. Like my Bday, key skills, school, ... And I think it's time to remember those moments.
I had a happy birthday this year. My friends were good to me as always. Thank you 2.6 grp mates for celebrating with me at the canteen, thank you Thomas and MK for your treat at that lovely pizza place, thank you, and thank you to all who've expressed love and wishes through various means. It's one of the best Bdays I've ever had.
The next day was release of AL result. To many's surprise, I was involved on that occassion. Well, I'm supposed to be involved, given that I have two UE students. Thankfully, they've done well. Dennis got a D for UE, and ABC for his 3 ALs. He is now eligible to study in HKU. Taka got an E, which I consider a success because he failed in CE English.
But that's not all of my involvement in HKAL 2009. Most of you should know this by now: I retook UE this year, got an A. I got C again for P Skills; other than that I got straight A.
Nevertheless I still can't find any UE student.
My spare time these days are mainly devoted to hall's design work, which makes my free time not so free. Basically I'm OK with work because I need to be occupied, but the thing is I need some time for Apollon, which I don't.
Key Skills was another challenge last week. On Thurs each of us called our patients back for oral hygiene instruction, or OHI. My patient was smart, really smart. But of course without good instructions he wouldn't be able to do all that XD. Anyway I was lucky I had Stanley Lai to assess me. Had it been someone else... Nono, I have to be confident with myself.
Carl Wu was good. I wish I can remove my patient's CMC crown successully next week.
We have a new tutor in polyclinics this week - Cora Cho. She's good.
Basically that's all I've missed this week. I'll make sure I spend more time here.
