Just random August 30, 2009
I continue my work on Apollon today. Progress's not bad, I started typesetting the Chinese section, and it looks great.
And when I read some magazine, I read abt Audi's piano. Yes, Audi. Well, thinking the piano is sexy, I decided to share the story here. [my scanner broke down, so I took a pix] If you're those music L, you must despise this piano, saying the sound quality sucks. But if you're not one of those music L, and have a house big enough to accomodate a grand piano, and want to let others think you're a cultured-type person, it's a good choice.
Stay hungry, stay foolish August 29, 2009
"Stay hungry, stay foolish." This is my message to my F.3 math class as I said farewell to them today, one quoted from Steve Jobs, who quoted this from others as he gave a speech at a college graduation. Today is meant to be special for me, because it's a day I part with my last batch of 08-09 students. They'll start their life as guinea pigs of the new high school curriculum in the coming September.
These students are special - they're really talented (academically). In addition, they like me (which was an opposite case for last year's students). I think they are going to do way better than I did, so I gave them some study tips, some encouragement, some pressure, said a GOOD bye, and most importantly, wished them good luck.
What will my next class be like? Will they listen to me? Will they be hard to teach? Will they like me? Well, I'll soon find out.
Apollon web site, pokchun August 25, 2009
I continue to pok chun these days, but most of you may not know that - I seldom show up in hall ocamp. The thing is, I'm focusing mainly on Apollonian these days. Process is not bad, but I guess what I need is to be even more focused.
And Apollonian's web site has finally been finished. (It's 7-month late!) They haven't uploaded it to the official server yet, so for the time being, visit here.
Choices August 23, 2009
Life is full of choices. Since time is one of the limitations in life, choices become another source of limitation, becuase among unlimited number of choices we have to choose one and forgo another.
My one-week remaining time in my summer vacation comprises a packed schedule. I have to attend hall's ocamp on some days, and finish apollon's design at the same time. How has Apollonian been going on btw? Well, for those who haven't had a chance to see it, here's a sneak peek (see below).
Back to our topic today, "choices". What do I need to choose from then? Well, I'm officially done with my student at MOS, who constantly annoys me by disrupting my schedule. Hmm.. I hope he understand.. that he's a jerk.
Quote of the day: 艾菲爾鐵塔的一層設有餐廳,據說莫泊桑曾經常在這裡用餐。 理由是:這裡是唯一看不見討厭的艾菲爾鐵塔的地方。
Dental O Camp, Aperture August 19, 2009
As you know, I'm back from Dental Ocamp a few days ago. But I only got time to upload a few photos out of the small amount of photos I took in Dental Ocamp. What you see is the way we Sen freshmen - they sit on the floor, we sit on the upper deck of the bed. We didn't really Sen them though. Sening freshmen is a dental tradition, but "not Sening" freshmen is '12's tradition.
And you can also see a picture of Aperture in action, which is fantastic. It's a very handy software, and it gets the colour correct.
Boys of courage, boys of daring, please act August 16, 2009
Why am I in St. John's mode when talking abt things concerning La Salle? I don't know, but I'm just very furious when I heard about these: changing the colour, reaction from the SA president, how the school (has not) consulted the students, how the OBA plays musical chairs.. La Salle boys, it's time to do something.
So I'm back from O Camp. It's not bad, and not as exhausting as last year's (mainly because there's no Mui Wo O). Anyway we woke up at 10 this morning, and left at 11 for Tung Chung. We went Yum Cha, which was, sadly, just merely satisfactory. I guess I have to go to nicer Dum Sum restaurant next time.
I'm at home now, but will go back to hall soon. Let me upload photos later.
O Camps August 14, 2009
How's my last entry? Every once in a while, my creative side emerges and enables me to write something. Yes, K.Chan's creativity is limited, that's why you see less and less changes in theme picture, less and less long, well written entries, ... Right now I have to save up more creative power for Apollon. I've set the deadline for design on 31st this month. Will I meet my target? For the sake of my 18 colleagues, I'm determined to do that.
Nonetheless I agreed to be group uncle in hall ocamp. And I'll be joining dental ocamp tmr evening. Hmm.. Ocamp may not be fun for freshmen, but it's definitely fun for seniors.
So, for those going to dental ocamp, see u there; for my other friends, see you soon.
PS 四月拉雯 - the chinese translation of an English name from my recently read Yishu book. do you know who that is?
** Another PS: my guess: 鍾有成(王喜) 有精神分裂
不是吃素的人 二〇〇九年八月十一日
And what happened after I left? Well, I met Lester and Michael for dinner (again) at CWB. This time we had California Pizza Kitchen, which was great. We enjoyed ourselves.
Something to share August 9, 2009
Found this highly amusing - I've wanted to share this since a few months ago, but I just couldn't find a good place to upload it (youtube keeps deleting copyrighted content), so..
Saturday August 8, 2009
Well, basically I did nothing on Friday morning and afternoon. It was a bit fun in the evening though - I attended dental ocamp's "revealing the spy" session. Every year I feel a bit of sorrow when I see how the freshmen react. The whole spy thing is cruel, and meaningless.
I forgot to mention that I treated myself at Bee Japanese Curry on Thursday, which was quite nice. But I guess when it comes to Japanese Teishoku (set meal), I can't forget Hundred People One Pig. Is it still there?
Tutoring on Sat has resumed. But the sad fact is that my dear students will soon promote to F.4, meaning we'll have to say goodbye. Well, I wish you good luck.
I Day, welcoming day, more August 7, 2009
What happened in the past few days? Well well well, Sunday was busy as we prepared for I Day. And then I helped in I Day on Tue, which was exhausting. On Wed I had a re-u with hall's ocamp group. Greg McNutt changed his surname to "Lawson", because he has now graduated and become a lawyer in the UK. No, that's not a joke. He really did that. Hmm.. A good thing about me not being admitted to medicine is perhaps that I don't have to change my name to Kevin Medic-son.
And then yesterday I went to Dental's welcoming day. Unlike some of my friends who are so enthusiastic that they came without being invited, I attended only to fulfil my duty as (one of the) chairperson(s) of Apollonian. The freshmen were nice (for now), just as we (all seniors) were nice to them too (again, for now). An interesting fact is that many Lasallians (5, past or immediate graduates) were admitted to Dentistry. This does not include Lee Kai Cheung, who's been admitted to CU Medic (as a Non-Ju W). My fellow Lasallians, I wish you good luck.
Btw I only gave a very short speech, but I have no regret. I mean, who's listening?
* * *
The Dean talked abt these chairs yesterday.. Mind you, some of these are true, some are not.
My first day in August has been devoted to the Apollonian. Indeed many works have been done, and I feel good about myself. So Kevin Chan has finally come back to work. Hopefully we can deliver Apollon on time.
