Thank you Cedars
December 22, 2008

Well, I'm glad that Cedars really respond to complaints quickly and appropriately. Below is an email I sent to Cedars at 3:32 am this morning, and I got Christina Lo's reply at 1:20 pm on the same day. Had it not been for Cedars, my discontent would not have been justified so rapidly.

Subject: Photocopier at Lee Shau Kee Hall

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am an undergraduate resident of Lee Shau Kee Hall. I have been a frequent user of the photocopier in the multi-purpose room of the hall since I started living there in Sep 2007. It is disappointing to discover that the printing quality of the photocopier has been deteriorating, especially since Sep 08.

The tone is now very light (not dark enough) even when I've set the highest contrast. It is also to my surprise that when I compare the same document I photocopied last year with one I newly photocopied recently (I do this deliberately to test the printing quality), the tone has really become lighter. I tried to complain to the hall office, but ignorance was their answer. They said nothing could be done because "this particular photocopier is just like that".

I'm quite familiar with photocopiers, so please don't just reply me in the same ignorant tone as the hall office did. If there is really no problem with the photocopier, and that "this particular photocopier is just like that", please replace it -- is it possible?

Thank you for your attention.

Yours faithfully,
Kevin Chan

Dear Chan Chi Wai Kevin

Thank you for letting me know the problem of the photocopier for Lee Shau Kee Hall via CEDARS. Pl. accept my apology for the reply of my colleagues which has disappointed you last Friday. I've just briefed them for giving a more supporting response to similar complaint in future.

For your information, the staff has had placed an order to the vendor subsequent to your leaving from hall office last Friday. The service guy came for inspection this morning and confirmed the problem was caused by a defective spare parts. He promised to come tomorrow to replace it. For the time being, the photocopier can still function but the printing performance may be not so satisfactory. We have posted a notice "Out Of Service" on the equipment. Thank you once again for reporting the defective problem and once again please accept our apology for causing any misunderstanding or inconvenience to you.

Study mode
December 16, 2008

Once again, I apologize for my absence for the past two weeks. Had this absence been one for school, I won't even need to study for exam due to the damn attendance rate thing XD Anyway my revision has officially started, and at this moment I just can't concentrate anymore. Perhaps I'll continue when I'm back to hall.

Recently, I'm stuck in cavity preparation. I'm performing poorly, and I have the feeling that it's totally possible that I'll fail. Let's hope that I'll do better in tomorrow's last session, and subsequently in January.

Anyway life's easier these days, with the holiday officially begun while others are studying for exam. This is not a good thing. It just multiplies my loneliness. When I'm at hall, I'd really like to join my hallmates to study. But right now I just feel I'm distant to them. Another thing is that hall handbook has become a super urgent matter now, so I'll have to hurry for that : (

Btw, I really like Discovery's new promo. It's not new, but it's good.

Council
December 5, 2008

We attended our first council today, and the good thing is that we're now officially appointed. I think we did not bad, and I have to thank everyone for their support. I have to thank Cto for doing everything she did. So please just don't be mad at me.

Now that I can put apollonian aside for some time, I should focus more on hall hand book, and afterwards, studying. Let's work hard, guys.

LA again
December 2, 2008

So, we had our second LA injection today. Mandibular nerve block is really not a simple thing to do. Most of the time it's only blind guess. And I'm really worried for my future patients who may need to be pierced a few times, if not more, before I can give a successful shot. I'm worried about myself too. When will I develop the skills? How competent should I become? I guess if I can become a human CT scanner, it'll be not bad. But before that, my patients can only suffer.

Cavity prep on the upper arch is more challenging than on the lower because we have to use indirect vision, but lower nerve block is much more difficult to achieve. So should we refer both patients to others? What's left for me then? Scaling, maybe. Then why not take a hygenist course?
